Hauer Ranch
Sena Taylor Hauer is the owner and operator of Hauer Ranch. The ranch is located off of Highway 128 at mile marker 21, on the banks of the Colorado River northeast of Moab, Utah in Professor Valley. She with her late husband, John Hauer, started Moab Horses trail rides in 2010. John passed in 2024 at the age of 89, having taken his last mule ride just a year prior.
Sena continues to ride nearly every day, and is delighted to show visitors the beauty of the Moab desert from atop an equine.
The ranch is protected by a conservation easement with The Nature Conservancy that John established in 1990. No further commercial development of Hauer Ranch is planned.

The ranch hosts thousands of guests each year for trail rides on the ranch and on the surrounding desert managed by the federal Bureau of Land Management, of which Moab Horses is a permittee. The ranch is open year-round.
The Hauer Ranch herd includes mares and geldings of various breeds including Quarter Horses, Missouri Fox Trotters, Appaloosas, Paints and the occasional beloved mule. John’s passion was mules, and he spent the latter decades of his life enjoying and promoting the many outstanding facets of them. He published a book popularized on the Grand Canyon and other locales entitled, “The Natural Superiority of Mules.”

The Hauer Ranch has been a popular movie destination because of its classic American West landscape. Sandstone formations, towering cliffs, broad vistas and the Colorado River set the stage for the quintessential cowboy movie. Structures on the ranch have been made to look like Old West buildings, with classic board-and-batten materials and boardwalk porches. See trail rides
